Nyingamapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by Guru Padamsambhava
in the 8th century. Sangacholing Monastery, another
monastery in Pemayangtse, is a 40-minute walk up the town.
Excursions
Most of the places around Pemayangtse have rich historical
background, as they remained in the centre of power for
a long period. These places also offer splendid views of
the adjoining mountains and are thronged by nature lovers
year after year. Pelling (3 km) offers magnificent
views of many mountain ranges while Khecheopalri Lake
is a revered place for both Hindus as well as Buddhists
of the state.
